Redundant, My First British Theatre Royal Court Theatre, Sloan Square. |

The play Redundant was quite interesting. It was a story of a young adult falling through the troubles of life with her family, boyfriends, and her newborn baby. The play was designed with allot of creativity. The stage was a triangle like design with the very tip entering into the first row. The set explained a mid to lower level income individual that was obviously not well kept. The play reminded me of many similar people in Los Angeles who live in the life of struggle between the traps of life. Having a baby at such a young age and a boyfriend who is heavily into drugs, results in the similar effect in UK, distance from the family. The beginning of the play showed a happier way of life that reflected more stability in the problem the main character was having. But as the play progressed, situations started getting intense (having the father questioning baby, etc.) and people started getting hurt. I guess you can say this is a 90-minute episode of how people fall into the traps and how hard it is to get out of them. At the end of the play a symbolic action took place where the ceiling rose to the very top of the theatre. This portrayed a meaning of how the main character seemed to fall further into the pit and how her life at the end of the play was only the beginning of the fall. The effect of the play resulted into taking my life into perspective and becoming more appreciative of it. |
