Corfu, Greece

Hoping over to Corfu Island
First day in Greece... arriving into Igoumenitsa

At 10am my ferry arrived into Igoumenitsa, Greece with scattered showers and hardly any sun. I got off the port and didn't have fuss with the passport thing, i guess Greece doesn't care. I walked around Igoumenitsa for awhile searching for a place to stay and finally settled into Hotel Acropolis, which was a basic accommodation near the port with rooms including views of the ocean. Igoumenitsa wasn't such a bad place to spend a day afterall. After I settled in I immediately devoured a gyros pita and got on with the remainder of my day... hoping over to Corfu.

When I arrived into Kerykya, Corfu's main port city, I was wondering why I every made this decision. The weather was slightly worse and there was hardly much to do besides walk around. So that's what I did. I walked up along the Old Fortress area never actually finding it, but instead filled my appetite with local fresh produce from the farmers market. I grabbed some bananas and oranges and just sat down for awhile watching Greek people interact.

When I got bored sitting around I walked into the Spianada where the city life exists. I got disoriented for a bit and decided to ask a friendly Greek woman for some direction. She didn't help me, but instead made me feel as if I was a street dweller asking for some money. Walking through the Spinanada and its old venetian architecture buildings reminded me a little bit of Italy. The narrow streets, shops, cafes, and squares, were similar looking but empty. Walking through the town I finally navigated to the New Fortress in which has a lighthouse at the very top. I walked throughout this area and up to the top where I caught a glimpse over the city of Kerkyra.

After Corfu I headed back to Igoumenitsa, shopped for a bit, grabbed another Gyros pita and continued my texting with Elizabeth. Later that night we were both expecting to connect when her ferry was due at the port at 10pm. I guess she was having a good time on the ferry and forgot to get off. It was no problem, she arrived safely into Patras at 8am, took a bus to Thessaloniki where we met later that evening.

After settling in I devoured a Gyros pita... this man was telling me how he used to watch the LA Lakers until T.V. greedily turned Digital and started charging him.. so no more Kobe & Shaq

Fresh baked bread from the local bakery... some of Greece's bread can be described as dry or rough.

Orthodox religion is present all across Greece.
